'Legend' Gareth Davies runs 10km run for charity, and practice

Duel code, age grade international Gareth Davies has been busy preparing himself for the big game against the French Legends this coming Saturday.

With a playing background that began in Wales, much of his career was spent abroad representing French team Albi during their promotion to the Top 14, Rovigo in Italy's super 10 and also throughout the Southern Hemisphere at Eastern Suburbs in Sydney and in New Zealand's super 14.

Quite the philanthropist, this is not the first time Davies has taken part in fitness events for charity and last Saturday saw him take on a 10 kilometer run for breast cancer awareness.

"I have done a few charity runs over the years but this one was made harder by the very strong, cold wind, and the additional rainfall made the river crossings extra fun. Overall these things are a great laugh and a good atmosphere, much better than training on my own and trudging out 10K." Said the retired Welsh exile, "There was plenty of mud and hills so I was able to tie it in as part of my match preparation – more importantly they had a great burger van, which was key to my post event recovery"

He hopes that playing for the Welsh Legends this coming weekend is just one of his many ways to give back. Looking ahead to the game, like all the players, he is looking forward to an entertaining and well-supported charity venture.

"I think I am most looking forward to the final whistle" joked Davies, "It is always good to have a runabout on the field, but what makes these events really special is being able to catch up with all the old faces on and off the field, those that you've played with and against over the years."
